This course included two enriching field trips — New York City and Cotton Inc. headquarters in North Carolina!

New York City

Jodi Sandman, CEO and founder of Crescala Collective, guided us through her showroom, where we had the opportunity to connect with industry professionals and emerging designers.

We were given a tour led by Ivan Shaw to the Condé Nast Archives, where we had the opportunity to explore the rich history of iconic publications.

A trip to Saks Fifth Avenue for competitive shopping allowed our team to analyze products, price points, brand positioning, marketing and ads, and visual merchandising. This provided us with inspiration that helped shape our brand vision!

Cotton Inc., North Carolina

We toured the factories to gain a deeper understanding of cotton and the processes involved in its production. Our line was required to consist of 70% cotton.

We observed the process of creating laser denim and were given samples to examine.

amend

amend aims to revive the heart of vintage clothing through a contemporary lens.

Our Name

amend represents the first initial of each of our names: Alina, Mia, Emma, Nathalie, and Dominique. This is how our brand name was formed.

Our Customer

Our target market consists of women aged 30 to 45 living in New York City. She is a high-achieving professional, often serving as a Chief Creative Officer at a marketing firm, and also acts as a fashion mentor. She is passionate about giving back to her community and guiding the next generation of fashion professionals.

Her annual income ranges from $150,000 to $250,000. She typically shops on a monthly basis, favoring high-end luxury boutiques as well as vintage markets. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with loved ones and attending theater performances.

Design Process

Color Palette

Inspired by Dorothy Dandridge, the first African-American film star nominated for Best Actress, this color palette evokes the elegance and glamour of 1950s Hollywood.

Sketches

Each team member created 5–6 sketches, resulting in a total of 30. Jodi Sandman, our critic, reviewed and critiqued each one, ultimately selecting 8. Throughout the process, she provided valuable feedback and suggested adjustments for improvement.

Technical Flats

Technical flats for the 8 looks were created using Adobe Illustrator, showcasing each garment's construction, silhouette, trims, and embellishments.

Specifications

A comprehensive tech pack, detailed cost sheet, and assortment plan were developed to support the design process.

The tech pack included technical flats, fabric specifications, measurements, and construction details. The cost sheet outlined material and labor costs to determine pricing and profitability, while the assortment plan ensured a balanced range of styles, colors, and sizes aligned with the target audience.

Fashion Show X Cotton Club

To kick off Lumèire, amend hosted an exclusive fashion show during New York Fashion Week at the Paris Theater in Manhattan, New York. Using CLO3D, we rendered the garments and created a mock-up of the fashion show to offer a glimpse of what’s to come. The event was held on a symbolic date, February 8th, honoring the anniversary of the Hollywood Walk of Fame’s groundbreaking in 1958. This show was an invitation only event which brought together a curated audience of industry professionals and creatives. Guests also enjoyed complimentary drinks provided by our partners at Cotton Club.

On April 19th, amend hosted a pop-up photobooth experience to engage our community in a fun and interactive way. Each photo strip had a copy of our QR code that directed users straight to our website. We encouraged all users to share their photos on their social media platforms using the hashtag AmendPopUp. Each user also received 15% when they use #AmendPopUp. Additionally, each hashtag that was shared, 5% of sales was be donated to the New Victory Theater.

Book Signing

Raissa Bretaña became a source of inspiration for us during a visit to Condé Nast in New York, where we were introduced to the lovely Gretchen Fenston, who guided us to her. She recently released her latest book, Moxie: The Daring Women of Classic Hollywood Moxie explores the lives and careers of the bold, fearless women who defined Hollywood's Golden Age. This book signing event was at the Rizzoli Bookstore. Guests had the exclusive opportunity to enjoy a meet-and-greet with Miss Bretana before the event. Plus, all guests received 10% discount code to use at amend.

amend partnered with Guerlain, known for its luxurious perfumes, cosmetics, and skincare. As part of this collaboration, we launched a special edition customizable lipstick collection featuring our signature brand name engraved directly onto each product. The campaign debuted in early June and was promoted through high-visibility ads at select bus shelters across the city. Guerlain brought our Lumìere collection to life by translating our four signature colors into stunning lipstick shades, Cabernet quickly became the standout favorite. To complement the lipsticks, we also offered customizable cases, each designed to reflect the distinct style of a different decade. These lipsticks seamlessly blended timeless style with modern individuality.
